What is Edo Glass?
"Edo Glass" is one of the traditional master craftsmanship of glass works which has continued since early 18th. It is said that at the beginning of Edo Glass production the craftsmen made mirror, glasses, wind chime, etc. Since then Edo Glass has progressed as a local industry succeeding original technique and adopting western ones. Nowadays, Edo Glass has been designated as a Traditional Crafts designated by the Minister for Economy of Japan in 2014.
Production
"Edo Glass" offered here is produced under following process;
- Hand-blow the glasses of transparent and colored layer
- Carve the outer glass to make the pattern
Design
In this item, two masterpieces of Hokusai (the Japanese greatest woodblock print artist) are depicted by skillful craftsmen of the workshop; Great Wave Off Kanagawa (blue) and Fine Wind, Clear Morning (red).

Notes
- The surface of the glass can get uneven when forming because the items is produced totally by hand one by one.
- No Heat-resistance. Cold liquid only.
- Details and colors of the image might be different from ones of real product due to resolution of the display through which the product is shown etc.
DONTS
- DO NOT wash the item using Dishwashing machine.
- DO NOT wash the item with hard materials such as steel wool, scrubbing brush, etc.
- DO NOT soak wash the item because the surface coating can be deteriorated or peeled off.
- DO NOT heat the item in microwave, oven or on an open flame.
